A new park and ride site could be created at Leyland Railway station.

South Ribble Council leaders have held discussions which could lead to the merger of two car parks next to the station in Golden Hill Lane, creating a single new facility.

South Ribble Council owns a car park at Station Approach and train operator Northern Rail has a 60-space free car park nearby.

Plans are being discussed to turn the two sites into a long stay pay and display car park.

The council is hoping to fund the project from the European funded Civitas.

Another absolutely brilliant idea! - those of us who choose to live in the pleasant surroundings of South Ribble and endure the daily train commute to Manchester or Liverpool will now have to pay even more for the pleasure! Thank you S-Ribble Council!!! Nice of you to openly DISCUSS the idea with your commuting residents first. If we're not taxed to death directly, its via stealth tax, this is yet another! Obviously the council has seen an opening in the market to raise yet more money to pay for the councillors FAT salary increases (oh, I forgot, they were fair and inline with other councils). Maybe I should just pack up and move to the south after all !!!!!
