Officers help you on the road to safety

Highways Agency traffic officers in Lancashire are leading a road safety day next week at Forton Services on the M6.

The traffic officers, who are based at Samlesbury, are joining their neighbours from Lancashire Police and the Safer Roads for Lancashire Partnership at the day-long event at the services car park and Forton Motorway Police car park.

The event, on Friday, is being run as a way of informing travellers about the role of Highways Agency traffic officers and the police and to advise on safer motorway driving.

Encouraging drivers to ensure their vehicles are fit for journeys including having enough fuel, will also be a theme of the event with free copies of Think Ahead, Move Ahead – the Highways Agency’s popular glove box atlas and journey-planning guide – available to those visiting the event Lancashire police is sending a motorway car and motorcycle plus four officers to the event while local Highways Agency officers will be attending with a working, high-visibility 4wd patrol which visitors can inspect.

The Safer Roads for Lancashire Partnership is also sending its mobile display vehicle.

Highways Agency’s David Nash, who has organised the event, said: “Our job is to patrol the Lancashire motorway network around the clock and keep drivers on the move.

“But when we can we like to get out to meet customers, explain our roles and drive home some important safety messages as well as advising drivers what they can do to help themselves to avoid accidents and break downs and plan their journeys to avoid congestion.”
