Thousands of women descended on a Preston park yesterday to take part in Race for Life 2008.
The event, held in Moor Park, saw nearly 2,300 women walk, jog or run in the 5k Citizen-backed race in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Preston’s Race for Life event manager, Nelson Laurencia, said: “The women of Preston deserve a really big thank you for creating such a great atmosphere and helping make the event so special.
“I hope everyone who took part in Race for Life at Moor Park really enjoyed themselves – everyone was in a party mood on the day and it looked like everyone had a fantastic time.”
But before calling time on this year’s event, organisers are asking those who took part to help them smash the fundraising target of £156,000.
Nelson added: “By taking part in Race for Life the women of Preston pledged their support to help us beat cancer – a disease that will affect on-in-three people in the UK at some stage in their lives.
“But this will only be possible if we raise enough money to help fund more of our life-saving research.
“The event itself may be over, but now it is vital that everyone makes one final effort by returning their sponsorship money as soon as possible to help us cross the fundraising finish line.”
Any women who have been inspired by the Preston Race for Life can still take part in one of two races in Leyland on Sunday, July 6, at Worden Park.
There is one in the morning at 11am and one at 2pm in the afternoon.
