A Lancashire man is warning JustEat customers to check their bank balanced after he was charged an eye-watering £249 delivery fee for a Greggs order.
Liam Halewood, an entertainer from Blackpool, placed an £11 Greggs order with JustEat but was shocked when his bank statement came in.
Liam, who is a Boy George tribute artist, told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I am a singer and did quite a lot of gigs one night.
“I woke up and thought ‘I can’t move anymore – I need to order Just Eat’… and I got charged hundreds for the pleasure.”
Liam said he “couldn’t believe it” when the money came out of his account.
He said: “I thought it must have been a glitch on the system and couldn’t believe it when the money actually left my bank account.
“They said I only had 24 hours to rectify it but nobody was getting in touch with me to get my money back.”
JustEat quickly resolved the issue giving Liam a refund and offering him a £25 gift voucher in compensation.
He said: “They said it was happening to quite a few people.
“It’s lucky I had that money in my bank and didn’t go into my overdraft.
“I’ll now be offering the voucher to a family or individual who needs it.”
Liam is now urging every JustEat customer to check their bank balance and approach the company if they spot a sky-high delivery fee on their statement.
A Just Eat spokesperson said: "We're aware of an issue on our platform that briefly affected the price of delivery orders for a very small percentage of our customers.
“This issue is now completely resolved and we are in the process of offering a full refund for all customers affected."
They have sent a goodwill voucher to all customers affected.
