TALENTED trampolinists from a high school have bounced their way to the Northern Zone final of a national competition.
At the North West Schools’ Championships, held in Macclesfield, Whitworth Community High School year 11 girls’ team finished second as did the years 9 and 10 girls’ team while Jake Hall came third in the boys’ competition. All are now through to the next round.
Two other teams from Whitworth’s years 7 and 8 and 9 finished third.
Fearne Leech, 15, said: “I have competed with the school in trampoline competitions before and I have been trampolining for about four to five years.”
Fearne, along with Hannah Pratt, 14, and Millie Nuttall, 13, were members of the years 9 and 10 team.
Hannah and Millie are both members of Rochdale Olympic Gymnastics Club, but only started trampolining in Year 7 at Whitworth and it was the first time they had competed for the school.
Hannah said: “I was not as nervous as I thought I would be, but because we had trained it was kind of exciting.”
Covid impacted on their training when clubs stopped for two weeks after half-term, but all three said they were looking forward to the Thursday trampolining club resuming the New Year in readiness for the next stage of the competition which will be held in Wigan in February.
